Founded thirty-one years ago, the Ixchel Museum is a private, non-profit institution dedicated to the conservation of Guatemala’s textile legacy. The museum recovers, collects, documents and exhibits textiles and works to educate the public, emphasizing the ethnographic, technical and artistic value of Mayan clothing and weavings.
The Ixchel Museum, with its 3,000 square meters of floor-space, was specifically designed to house, conserve and exhibit an extensive textile collection. A climate-controlled area keeps the textiles in optimum condition, in accordance with modern guidelines for preventive conservation.
